Helias drops two in baseball season opener

Loses to Glendale, Jefferson City

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Helias lost a 2-1 battle to Glendale in the season opener before falling 13-2 in five innings to Jefferson City on Saturday.

Glendale scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to get past the Crusaders.

Wyatt Porter allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two and walking three in six innings.

Garrett Buschjost was 2-for-2 with a triple to lead Helias at the plate in the opener.

The Crusaders managed three hits against Jefferson City in the nightcap.

Josh Feather had a hit and drove in a run, while Todd Buschjost and Trystan Bax both added a hit to help lead the Crusaders against their cross-town rival.

Matt Rehagen allowed seven runs on six hits, while striking out one and walking four in 22/3 innings.

Helias will host Quincy Notre Dame and Kirksville for a doubleheader, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Helias JV team claimed a 5-4 victory against Glendale in nine innings in the season opener, but fell to Jefferson City 13-8 in the nightcap Saturday.

Nolan Sachse was 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Zach Stiles had two hits and drove in a run. Ryan Gartner also added two hits for the Crusaders in the win.

Drew Boessen didn't allow a hit or a run and struck out three in the final four innings to earn the victory on the mound for Helias.

Gartner got the start and allowed four runs (one earned) on two hits, while striking out two and walking one in five innings.

Matthew Dampf and Ryan Graessle both had two hits and two RBI to lead the Crusaders in the loss. Zach Stiles and Sachse both added two hits to help lead Helias.

The Crusaders travel to Boonville on March 31.
