SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Officials at Springfield Public Schools have selected Lorenzo Williams as head coach of the Central High School football team beginning with the next school year.

He replaces James "Pete" Hanson, who resigned his football coaching duties earlier this year.

Williams has served as the Bulldogs' assistant football coach for the past two years. Prior to working at CHS, Williams coached football and track at Helias Catholic High School in Jefferson City.

Williams is a graduate of University of Missouri in Columbia, where he played football for the Tigers.

"We are excited to have Coach Williams leading the Central football program," said Mark Fisher, SPS athletic director. "He is an energetic and enthusiastic individual who will positively influence his players."
