William Woods softball dominates

FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods softball team dominated in its American Midwest Conference home-opening doubleheader, defeating Benedictine University at Springfield 8-1 in Game 1 and 14-1 (five innings) in the nightcap Friday.

MacKenzie Bowden (Jefferson City) picked up her seventh win of the season after allowing one run (no earned) on three hits, while striking out 14 and walking two in seven innings in the opener.

Lindsey LeCuru (Helias) had three hits and drove in three runs, while Beth Begemann (Southern Boone) added three hits and an RBI to help lead Williams Woods (13-8, 2-0).

Hannah Campbell (Russellville) had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Shelby LeCuru (Helias) added a hit and an RBI to help lead the Owls offensively.

William Woods will travel to Hannibal-Lagrange College for a doubleheader, starting at 2 p.m. today.
