Schaaf sisters lead El Dorado Springs to title

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Alexa Schaaf scored 20 points and her sister Kameron Schaaf added 18 to help El Dorado Springs hold off Ash Grove 66-56 for its first Missouri Class 3 girls championship.

Trailing 54-52 with 2:30 remaining Saturday, Alexa Schaaf converted two free throws that sparked a 13-0 run — with only one field goal — to put the game away for El Dorado Springs (28-3).

The Bulldogs shot 55.6 percent (20 of 36) from the field and finished 19 of 23 at the charity stripe.

Morgan Allred scored 13 points and Katie Skelton grabbed 13 rebounds for Ash Grove (28-5), which used an 18-2 second-half run to take a 49-44 lead with 5:17 left.

The Pirates outrebounded El Dorado Springs 30-20 but made only five of their 11 free throw attempts.
