LU women third at NCAA Indoor meet

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. - The Lincoln Blue Tigers finished third Saturday in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Lincoln finished with 47 team points. Adams State took top honors with 67, while Johnson C. Smith was second with 59. Grand Valley State (44) and Ashland (30) rounded out the top five.

The Blue Tigers finished third in a pair of events Saturday - Yanique Ellington in the 60-meter dash (7.50) and Twishana Williams in the mile (4:53.08).

Finishing fourth for Lincoln were Ladonna Richards in the 60-meter hurdles (8.39), Ellington in the 200 (24.61) and Monique Thompson in the 800 (2:10.54). Janae Johnson was sixth in the 200 (24.61), while Juneille Barker was seventh in the 60 hurdles (8.56). The 4x400 relay team of Kimberly Bailey, Donna-Lee Hylton, Tamara Keane and Lovan Palmer was eighth (3:49.99).

On the men's side, Lincoln was 15th with 13 points. St. Augustine's won the title with 84.5, just ahead of Adams State (83). Ashland (48) was a distant third.

The Blue Tigers' top finish came in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Winston Edwards, Ashley, Jermaine Blake and Roger Blake was third in 3:15.12.

Individually, Ramone Hill was fifth in the 60-meter dash (6.81), while Romel Lewis was seventh in the 200 (21.93) and Ashley was eighth in the 400 (38.33).

Both the Lincoln women's and men's teams will start the outdoor season March 28-29 at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis.
