Lincoln softball swept by Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Allyson Corry was 4-for-7 and drove in a run, but the Lincoln softball team fell to Lindenwood 7-1 and 7-1 in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader on Thursday.

Corry had two hits and scored the Blue Tigers' only run in Game 1. She followed that performance with two hits and drove in a run to lead Lincoln (2-13, 0-6) in the nightcap.

The Blue Tigers were out-hit 18-11, struck out 18 times and committed five errors in the twinbill.

Shantae Duren was 2-for-6 with an RBI, while Kelsey High, Kassidey Borland, Erin Sommerer, Madison Gooden and Alyssa Laudwig all had hits for Lincoln, which lost its 13th straight.

Jessica Cook allowed four runs (1 earned) on three hits in 42/3 innings in the opener. Laudwig closed out the game by yielding three runs on five hits in 11/3 innings.

Cook followed that performance by allowing seven runs (5 earned) on 10 hits, while striking out three and walking four in six innings of work in the nightcap.

The Blue Tigers committed three errors in the fourth inning in Game 1 and Lindenwood took advantage by scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead.

Lincoln scored its lone in the top of the fifth when Sommerer, Gooden, and Laudwig all singled to load the bases with one out. Corry was able to draw a walk with two outs to put the Blue Tigers on the board, but that's all they would get.

The Lions added three runs in the bottom of the fifth, before holding Lincoln scoreless in the final two innings.

Lincoln was held scoreless in Game 2 until the sixth inning, when Duren connected with an RBI double to plate Curry to make it a 4-1 affair.

Lindenwood added three more runs in the bottom of the frame to put away the Blue Tigers.

Lincoln will host Lindenwood (5-10, 3-3) today for a doubleheader, starting at noon.
