Commission OKs no-parking zone on West McCarty

A small area of West McCarty Street may change to a no-parking zone based on the recommendation of the Jefferson City Transportation and Traffic Commission.

At the commission meeting Wednesday, city staff presented a request to remove parking around the island of West McCarty Street, near Havana Street. The requestor, Scott Bishop, said tenants of a nearby apartment building often park along the island, making it difficult for residents across the street to get their vehicles out of their driveways.

Operations Division Director Britt Smith said the width of the street would support removing parking from one side, and city staff have no issues with the request.

The commission unanimously approved the request, which will go to the City Council for review.

Two other requests to limit parking were temporarily tabled. A request for a no-parking zone on Williams Street near the entrances of parking lots was tabled to look into an option of simply removing parking from one side of the street.

Another request for a no-parking area on Cedar Ridge Road near Southwest Boulevard was tabled to allow for an effected business owner to weigh in on the issue before the commission made any decision.
