Contractor to close portion of Business 50 West

Don Schnieders Excavating, the contractor working on the project to improve Business 50 West in the Apache Flats area, will be closing the road to all traffic on 7 a.m. Thursday to install a box culvert, weather permitting.

Workers expect to have the road back open by the afternoon rush hour Friday. The location of the closure is just west of Country Club Drive and is a spot closure with the road open on both ends.

Two detour routes will be set up during this closure. One detour will be to Big Horn Drive and Apache Trail, and the other detour will be from Country Club Drive to Rainbow Drive to Pioneer Trail Drive. Message boards will be in place to provide notifications of the closure details.

Once the road is opened back up, normal construction activities will resume, and motorists should expect the two-lane temporary traffic control in the work zone that is currently in place.

Public works officials said they understood this will be an inconvenience to the business owners and motorists in the area, but they say the closure is necessary to ensure safety for the public and workers as well as to limit the construction time to only two days.
