Erin Alewine of Central Missouri has been named the Central Region Field Athlete of the Year.
Alewine (Jefferson City High School) received the honor from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The senior is the top-ranked competitor in the pentathlon after winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) title with a score of 3,901. She is also ranked No. 8 in the nation in the high jump (5-9 1/4) and No. 20 in the long jump (18-9 3/4).
Alewine is one of nine Central Missouri athletes scheduled to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships later this week in Winston-Salem, N.C.
