Tuesday, March 11, 2014
EDMOND, Okla. — The Lincoln softball team managed just seven hits in 12 innings of play while dropping both halves of a doubleheader Monday at Central Oklahoma.
The Blue Tigers got two hits in the first game, a 9-0 loss in a game shortened to five innings due to the run rule, and five more in a 5-0 defeat in the nightcap.
Things started well for Lincoln, as Allyson Corry led off the first game with a single. But the Blue Tigers wouldn’t get another hit until Erin Sommerer had a single with one out in the fourth.
The Bronchos, meanwhile, had no such problems. They rapped out 10 hits and scored in every inning — two in the first and second, three in the third and two more in the fourth.
Alyssa Laudwig took the loss, throwing a complete-game 10-hitter. Eight of the nine runs were earned, and she walked two and struck out one.
Sommerer had a single and a double to pace Lincoln on offense in the second game. Each team had five hits in the contest.
Jessica Cook allowed five earned runs on five hits to take the loss. She walked four and struck out three.
The Blue Tigers dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, while Central Oklahoma improved to 13-7 and 4-0.
Lincoln is scheduled to finally open its home portion of the schedule with a Wednesday doubleheader against Truman State. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m.
