Blue Tigers drop two to Northeastern State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Lincoln Blue Tigers managed just two runs while dropping both halves of a doubleheader with Northeastern State on Sunday.

The RiverHawks cruised to a 10-0 win in five innings in the opener, as the Blue Tigers managed just two hits. Northeastern State then claimed a 6-2 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, singles by Sam Kircher and Kelsey Hight accounted for all of the hits for the Blue Tigers.

Jessica Cook took the loss, working the first 3 1/3 innings in the circle, then coming back to get the final two outs after Madison Gooden could not get out any of the four batters she faced. Cook gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out three. Gooden gave up four earned runs on two hits and two walks.

In the nightcap, the Blue Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth and held until the RiverHawks won it with a five-run bottom of the sixth.

Amanda Coffelt and Alyssa Laudwig had RBI singles in that fifth inning, but that was the extent of the production.

Laudwig took the loss, throwing an eight-hitter while walking seven and striking out one. She gave up six runs, four of them earned.

Northeastern State is 12-6 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, while Lincoln is 2-7 and 0-2.

The Blue Tigers will play a doubleheader today at Central Oklahoma, starting at 1 p.m.
