Stephens splits

COLUMBIA - Stephens College got its first win of the season Sunday, beating Ecclesia (Ark.) 12-4 in five innings in the first game of a twinbill before falling 11-5 in the nightcap.

Stephens rode the pitching and hitting of Katelyn Rush (Jefferson City High School) to the win in the opener. Rush went 3-for-3 with two RBI at the plate, and also picked up the win in relief. She pitched the final four innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out four.

Rush picked up two more hits during the second game of the doubleheader.

Rush, the second of three Stephens pitchers in that game, took the loss for the Stars. She allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out two.

Stephens is now 1-5 on the season, while Ecclesia is 7-12.
