Thrivent gives funds for Habitat home

River City Habitat for Humanity has received $40,000 from Thrivent Financial to build one home in Jefferson City.

The funding is part of an ongoing partnership which is called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity and serves Habitat for Humanity International. From its inception is 2005, Thrivent Financial and its members have committed more than $200 million in monetary funds and four million volunteer hours to help provide affordable housing and stronger, generous communities.

The funding serves three programs in the partnership, Thrivent Builds Homes, Thrivent Builds Worldwide and Thrivent Builds Repairs.

In this local area, one Thrivent Builds Home will be built this year. Since the beginning of the program more than 2,000 Thrivent Builds Homes have been built across the country, nine of them in Jefferson City.

Thrivent Builds Worldwide allows members and others to give financially and volunteer their time to travel to international or domestic locations for a week or more to build Habitat homes. Locally, River City Habitat for Humanity's construction manager Kyle Kittrell is leading trips to Malawi and Costa Rica this year.

Thrivent Builds Repairs members and others help repair existing homes in partnership with local families who don't have the resources or ability to make the repairs themselves.

Thrivent Financial is the largest non-governmental supporter of Habitat for Humanity International.
