Man involved in Miller County standoff charged

Following a six-hour long standoff with law enforcement Wednesday in northern Miller County, a Columbia man faces multiple charges of kidnapping, rape and sodomy.

According to Miller County Sheriff Bill Abbott, the Cole County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday advised the Miller County Sheriff's Office they had received a 911 call from a female who said she had been assaulted, sexually assaulted and kidnapped from her residence in Columbia. The woman was then transported to the hospital, Abbott said.

The Miller County sheriff said Scott Peoples, the man accused of the assault and kidnapping, barricaded himself in a Miller County residence Wednesday. A standoff with Miller County and Cole County deputies lasted six hours until Peoples surrendered, Abbott said. Peoples was then transported to the Miller County Jail on charges from Boone and Miller counties.

He is charged in Miller County with kidnapping, first-degree rape and three counts of first-degree sodomy. He is being held on a $500,000 bond. He was also charged in Boone County with kidnapping and two counts of sodomy. He has a $600,000 cash only bond in Boone County and is not allowed on the premises of Buxton Lane in Columbia, according to MissouriCase.net.
