Wrestling: UCM's Loethen advances

Central Missouri's Ty Loethen qualified for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships with his third-place finish in the Central Regional.

Competing at 165 pounds, Loethen (Helias High School) started Friday's action with a 16-3 win against Shawn Porter of Minnesota-Moorhead, then won 5-3 against Dalton Westerlund of Upper Iowa.

On Saturday, Loethen fell 9-4 to Kyle Begin of Southwest Minnesota State before bouncing back to beat Brock Krumm of Mary by a 5-3 score. Then in the third-place match, Loethen posted a 9-7 win against Brock Smith of Nebraska-Kearney.

Central Missouri's Hunter Neighbors (Jeffrson City High School) dropped both his matches at 133 pounds and finished the season with a record of 24-15.

Loethen, who is now 21-7 on the season, moves on to compete in the Division II Championships set for March 14-15 in Cleveland.
