KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The engineering firm Burns & McDonnell could receive up to $8.5 million in Missouri tax incentives for an expansion of its Kansas City headquarters.
Gov. Jay Nixon was among those attending a groundbreaking Thursday for the firm's $109 million project, which is being jointly funded by the property owner, VanTrust Estate.
Burns & McDonnell announced in February that the expansion could house an additional 2,100 employees to be hired over the next decade. That would bring the company's Kansas City workforce to 4,700 people.
The state Department of Economic Development said its incentives depend on the firm meeting job-creation and investment criteria.
In May, the Kansas City Council approved an incentive package that includes industrial development bonds and about $42 million in tax increment financing assistance over 23 years.
