Your Opinion: Reservations, despite law

Dear Editor:

I want to thank Mr. Wallemann for his June 22 response to my letter of June 19.

I appreciate very much his taking the time to educate me regarding the requirements of Missouri's Revised Statute 170.011. It does my heart good to be living in Missouri where we won't have to have the same battle they are having with the liberal universities in South Carolina.

Of course, as we are finding out lately that liberals, who seem to have the most control of academia, don't seem to have much respect for our laws or equal expression of ideas. With that in mind, does just having a law on the books guarantee compliance with the law? It doesn't seem to matter to Obama and his minions why should it matter to the DoED or any other government organization that is gaining more and more influence over the education of our young?

Walleman stated, "Hopefully Mr. Horstmann now knows what the schools are teaching." I'm sorry Mr. Walleman, because of my recently acquired cynical nature regarding our government(s) role in education; I must say I still have reservations as to what our schools are teaching. Any logically thinking person should know that no one could monitor every classroom in Missouri for compliance. Passing a law is easy compared to enforcing compliance.

Maybe Wallemann would also educate me as to how Revised Statute 170.011 is being enforced, the success of the enforcement and statistics on test grades for the required course(s) to confirm its success in the education of the students on all the documents establishing our freedoms.

If our Republic is to survive, the teaching of our founding documents should be monitored on the same level of importance as any other required course of study.
