Survey on fire chief position available to public

A three-question survey now is available to the public to provide input on the Jefferson City fire chief position and search.

The survey, which is available from the city's website or www.surveymonkey.com/s/firechiefjc, asks residents: what is the most important attribute of the next fire chief, what is the most important issue facing the department and whether the internal-only search should be opened to outside candidates.

The survey will be open until June 30.

The Fire Chief Recommendation Committee, a seven-member citizen committee, decided to seek the input at a meeting last week. The survey results likely will be discussed at the next committee meeting, which is planned for July 7.

The committee will eventually make a recommendation to the city administrator on a candidate for the position, which has been vacant since former Chief Bob Rennick retired in March 2013. It has been filled on an interim basis by Jason Turner, the division chief of prevention and public information.
