Jefferson City firefighters soon will be moving into the new Fire Station No. 3.

Located just off Rock Hill Road, the $2.2 million facility will replace the Industrial Drive station, which was built in 1966. The new firehouse will feature separate men's and women's housing and provide a backup hardened location for the 911 center.

At the Public Safety Committee meeting Tuesday, interim Fire Chief Jason Turner gave council members a tour of the new station, which is awaiting some additional furniture. Turner said the station is 95.99 percent complete and awaiting just a few last-minute touches. He said some furniture has been back-ordered, and they are working on the backup generator. But he said staff should be able to begin moving into the station in a few weeks.

"We're pretty excited about moving in here," Turner said.

Turner also noted the project is under budget, "not by much, but we're under budget."

Turner said a public opening, where people will be able to visit and tour the new station, likely will be planned for late July.

The new facility is the first station to be built in more than 20 years.
