Your Opinion: Law specifies what schools are teaching

Dear Editor:

I read with interest the letter of Harold Horstmann on June 19 about what schools are teaching. I would suggest that he follow his own advice and find out what our schools are teaching.

Revised Statute of Missouri 170.011 states "No pupil shall receive a certificate of graduation from any public or private school other than private trade schools unless he has satisfactorily passed an examination on the provisions and principles of the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Missouri, and in American history and American institutions."

The State Board of Education has rules in effect to make sure the law is complied with. Hopefully Mr. Horstmann now knows what the schools are teaching.
