One dead, 6 hurt in area accidents

A Lee's Summit woman died in a two-vehicle crash Friday in Morgan County.

Collette M. Moreno, 26 of Lee's Summit, was pronounced dead at University Hospital after a crash on Prairie Valley Road, at Missouri 5 north, Friday afternoon.

According to reports from the Highway Patrol, Moreno was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ashley M. Theobald, 26 of Kansas City. Theobald, who was driving southbound, began to overtake another vehicle, driven by Melvin E. Garber, 25 of Versailles, just as Garber crested a hill. Both drivers swerves to try and miss each other, but Garber struck the passenger side of Theobald's vehicle, which then ran off the left side of the road, which Garber's vehicle ran off the right side of the road.

Theobald was transported by ambulance to University Hospital with minor injuries and Moreno was pronounced dead at 5:32 p.m. at University Hospital.

All involved were wearing seat belts.

A Springfield woman sustained serious injuries after a one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Miller County.

According to patrol reports, Kendall M. Rodgers, 20 of Springfield, was driving eastbound on U.S. 54, at Route MM, at 2:13 p.m. Friday, when she ran off the rights side of the road and struck a ditch, a utility pole and the ground, causing the vehicle to overturn and Rodgers to be ejected.

Rodgers was transported by Staff for Life to University Hospital with serious injuries.

Rodgers was not wearing a seat belt.

A California man was injured in a one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Miller County.

According to patrol reports, Alex J. Bieri, 18 of California, Mo., was driving westbound on U.S. 54, east of Allen Road, at 5:15 p.m. Friday when he lost control while manipulating the controls. Bieri exited the left side of the road, traveled over the median becoming airborne over the eastbound lanes of traffic, traveled down a ravine and struck a tree, a ditch and a bluff.

Bieri was transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital with moderate injuries.

Bieri was wearing a seat belt.

Two men were injured in one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Miller County.

According to patrol reports, Jeremy J. Olmstead, 31 of Stoutland, was driving eastbound on Bentown Road, three miles west of Route U, at 1:20 p.m. Friday, when he lost control on a gravel road, running off the left side of the road and hitting a tree.

Olmstead received minor injuries and refused treatment. Carl H. Hitt, 51 of Richland, was a passenger in the vehicle and was transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital with moderate injuries.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

Two teens were injured in a one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Callaway County.

According to patrol reports, Levi T. Land, 17 of Holts Summit, was driving southbound on A Street, at B Street, in Holts Summit at 1:30 p.m. Friday when he traveled off the left side of the road and struck a concrete culvert.

Land was transported by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital with minor injuries, as was his passenger, Robert P. Jolley, 16 of St. James.

Land and Jolley were both wearing seat belts.
