Area athletes snag newcomer honors

A total of seven area athletes were named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Academic Honor Roll for newcomers recently.

The award is handed out to student-athletes who have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 and at least two terms of attendance at an MIAA institution.

Here are the honorees in each sport:

• Track and Field - Central Missouri freshman Amy Dorge (Blair Oaks High School), an undecided major with a 3.19 GPA; and Central Missouri freshman Trevor McClelland (Eldon High School), an undecided major with a 3.61 GPA.

• Women's Basketball - Lindenwood freshman Bre Zanders (Helias High School), an exercise science major with a 3.59 GPA; and Northwest Missouri State junior Shelby Mustain (Jefferson City High School), a public relations major with a 3.03 GPA.

• Softball - Lindenwood freshman Madison Huot (Fatima High School), a pre-dentistry major with a 3.21 GPA.

• Cross Country/Track and Field - Missouri Southern freshman Lizzy Kirby (California High School), an occupational therapy major with a 3.80 GPA.

• Track and Field - Missouri Southern freshman Tyler Rush (Linn High School), a freshman business major with a 4.00 GPA.
