WASHINGTON - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors dropped a 6-3 decision Wednesday to Creve Coeur in the first game of pool play in the Washington Tournament.
The local club then came back to go 1-1 on Thursday in the event.
Post 5 totaled 10 hits in scoring single runs in the first, fourth and seventh innings in Wednesday's contest.
Corey Beard had three hits for Post 5, while Cole Distler had two. Dylan Brauner scored twice, while Logan Bax tallied the other run.
Austin Sachse took the loss for Post 5, working the first five innings. He allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out eight.
Todd Buschjost pitched the final two frames, allowing a single run on two hits. He struck out two.
Post 5 then stranded 11 runners on base during a 7-6 loss to Edwardsville, Ill., to start Thursday's action.
Brauner had three hits and one RBI for Post 5, while Bax had two hits and one RBI. Hayden Strobel drove in a pair of runs, while Brenden Ogletree had one hit and one RBI and Beard drove in one run.
Distler started and took the loss, working the first four innings. He gave up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.
Beard pitched the final two innings and gave up just one hit while walking two and striking out four.
Post 5 rolled to a 16-3 win against Glendale, scoring in every inning it went to the plate. Jefferson City had three in the first, seven in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth in the game that was shortened to five innings.
Trevor Schnieders and Distler both went 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs. One of Schnieders' hits was a triple and one of Distler's hits was a double.
Also for Post 5, Strobel had three hits and four RBI, Rylie Klosterman had a double and three RBI, Sachse and Brauner had one hit and two RBI apiece, and Ogletree had one hit and one RBI.
Schnieders threw a complete-game three-hitter. Only two of the three runs were earned and he struck out four and walked three.
