Your Opinion: Invasive zoning proposal

Dear Editor:

How many sex shops have applied for business permits during the past decade? How many pig farmers have snapped up large parcels of land right next to fully established neighborhoods just outside Jefferson City limits?

According to this latest zoning initiative, an uninformed voter might just believe Cole County is turning into one big trash heap. The truth couldn't be more the opposite. As a county property owner, I continue to see new micro-farms and lovely homes built each year at a rate that astounds me yet here we are at an intersection where I'll be told from here forth what I can and cannot do with my little slice of heaven.

For those who believe the average person or investor is stupid, then this bill makes sense. For those who work hard to enjoy the country lifestyle, the need for invasive zoning laws couldn't be more anti-American. Let us make our dream. Let us decide how to make a lovelier oasis. Look at who's behind this zoning initiative and all you'll find are real estate and financial companies who're determined to make an even greater financial killing at our expense.

Please don't vote our right away to live our lives the way we want.
