Man dies in shooting by Cassville officer

CASSVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A 25-year-old southwest Missouri man has died after being shot by a police officer.

Cassville Police Chief Dana Kammerlohr on Wednesday said John Thomas of Cassville was killed during a confrontation Tuesday morning.

Kammerlohr said Thomas assaulted Cassville police Cpl. Donald Privett with a pipe before Privett shot him. Thomas man died at a hospital in Springfield.

The Monett Times reports (http://bit.ly/1pFOUMX ) Privett was treated for minor injuries and has been put on leave while the shooting is investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Barry County Sheriff's Department.

Kammerlohr said she couldn't comment on other details of the case until the investigation is completed.
