Leporin trial set for Monday

Dennis Leporin's second-degree murder trial still is scheduled to begin Monday morning.

Leporin, now 29, Columbia, also faces charges of second-degree assault, DWI, driving while revoked and driving on the wrong side of the road, following a March 6, 2013, head-on collision that killed Chelsea D. Fredrickson, 19, Camdenton.

A passenger in Fredrickson's 2003 Saturn Ion, Jasper J. Richmond, was injured and had to be flown by helicopter to a Columbia hospital for treatment.

The accident happened on U.S. 54, just west of the Route B/Missouri 179 overpass.

Jefferson City police said Leporin was driving east in the westbound lanes of U.S. 54, when his 1999 Ford Ranger collided head-on with Fredrickson's car.

Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson told Circuit Judge Dan Green Wednesday morning: "The state is ready for trial Monday."

Defense Attorney Dan Dodson was in a trial in northeast Missouri on Wednesday, but was to contact Green this week about his readiness for the trial.
