Driver leads Jefferson City police on chase

A man was taken into custody early Sunday after he reportedly abandoned the car Jefferson City police had been chasing and ran into a residence.

The chase began on West Edgewood Drive shortly before midnight when the driver refused to pull over for a traffic stop. Police cars followed the suspect vehicle south on Highway 179 to Route C, then back into the city, eventually driving the wrong way on a one-way street past Jefferson City High School.

Having already identified the suspect vehicle, license plate and a description of the driver, police decided for public safety reasons to terminate their pursuit after the fleeing vehicle sideswiped another car on Moreau Drive near Hough Park Road.

A short time later, police responded to the 2100 block of Tanner Bridge Road after learning a man matching the driver's description had abandoned his vehicle and fled into a house. That's where the suspect was captured.
