OSAGE BEACH, Mo. -- Fur flew at the eighth annual Canine Cannonball at the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend, and so did the dogs wearing it.

The DockDogs-sponsored dock-jumping event, held at Dog Days Bar & Grill in Osage Beach, challenges experienced and first-time canine competitors to jump from a dock into a pool of water in "big air" and "extreme vertical" contests.

While first-timers like Bobby, a 6-year-old border collie mix owned by Justin Bruner of Osage Beach, leapt for impressive distances like 10 feet, some dock jumpers reached distances as high as 20 feet across the pool.

Since 2000, DockDogs has been the independent governing and sanctioning body for regional, national and international dock-jumping events for dogs, according to a news release. DockDogs tracks each official jump of all competitors and ranks dogs nationally.

Representatives from Osage Beach's Dogwood Animal Shelter also attended the meet with dogs available for adoption on-site. All proceeds from the Canine Cannonball benefit the shelter.

The Canine Cannonball began Friday evening, with a full day of jumping and splashing on Saturday, and wrapped up today.

Dog Days Bar & Grill is located at 1232 Jeffries Rd. in Osage Beach.
