Man killed in area wreck

An Imperial man was killed and a Gravois Mills man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday afternoon in Camden County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said a vehicle driven by Benjiman J. Kasper, 25, Gravois Mills, was eastbound on Route MM, .6 miles east of Chimney Point Road at about 1 p.m. when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. An oncoming westbound vehicle driven by Patrick F. Rayburn, 55, Imperial, drove off the right side of the road to avoid Kasper's vehicle, but struck it head-on.

Rayburn's vehicle overturned and caught fire, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

Kasper was not wearing a seat belt. He was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia.
