Your Opinion: An analogy involving Hamas

Dear Editor:

If people living on the Navajo Nation which is spread out over parts of four states (it is larger than 10 states) started firing dozens of rockets a day at Flagstaff, Ariz.; Gallup, N.M., and Durango, Colo. would you be in favor of the federal government doing nothing to stop the rockets from being fired? (Hamas has fired over 11,000 rockets into Israel since 2005.)

Indians were herded into the Navajo Nation by the U.S. military in the late 1800s. In 1967 Israel militarily took the area called the Gaza strip from Egypt. The area was part of Egypt from 1958-67. Prior to that it had been part of Syria. Is the Navajo Nation situation so different from that of Gaza?

It appears to me that Israel made a huge mistake when they, back in 1994, ceded the right to self-governance to those in Gaza. In 2006 Gaza residents elected Hamas members to lead them. Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States, Canada, the European Union, Jordan, Egypt and Japan. Hamas's charter calls for the obliteration of Israel. In the past Hamas has routinely stolen humanitarian aid shipments and then sold the contents to the highest bidders. What type of despicable human being wages war while using women and children as human shields?

If the over 300,000 people living on the Navajo Nation elected a group whose charter included the obliteration of the United States, and then that group then started firing rockets at the above mentioned cities, would you be in favor of just letting the rockets continue to fall?
