Alewine honored

NEW ORLEANS - Former Central Missouri standout Erin Alewine was one of three athletes recently named an NCAA Division II Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Alewine, who earned nine all-state honors during her prep career at Jefferson City High School, was honored along with Danielle Williams of Johnson C. Smith and Bethany Drake of Western Washington.

Considering their accomplishments in the classroom and in competition during the recently completed academic year, the trio of athletes were the most exceptional among a class of 422 student-athletes who earned USTFCCC All-Academic honors.

Scholar Athlete of the Year awards are awarded to athletes who earned All-Academic status and placed highest in individual events at the NCAA Division II Championships.

Alewine, a recent graduate who earned a degree in dietetics with a 3.56 cumulative GPA, repeated as a Scholar Athlete of the Year for the indoor field category after winning her second consecutive heptathlon title at the NCAA Indoor Championships. In doing so, Alewine becomes the first woman to earn the indoor field award in consecutive seasons.
