Area business academy now open for applicants

The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the University of Missouri Extension's Small Business & Technology Development Centers to offer Cole County a Small Business Academy.

The academy is designed to help business owners achieve their personal visions of growth by improving and strengthening their strategic planning skills and entrepreneurial knowledge. Using the Kauffman Foundation's Fast Trac Growth Venture curriculum, participants will receive a 400-page manual and workbook.

The Sept. 10 through Nov. 26 academy, featuring one three-hour session per week, will enable local small-business owners and entrepreneurs several key opportunities. Participants will create or confirm their strategic vision and associated strategy, identify and plan the initiatives needed to grow their business, understand, create and maintain a competitive advantage, adapt their leadership style to their changing roles and focus and align all aspects of their business.

The academy will feature presenter Chris Thompson, business development specialist for the University of Missouri Extension, as well as other guest speakers on a variety of topics.

Cost information and an application for the Small Business Academy can be found on the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce's website at www.jeffersoncitychamber.org. For more information, contact Sappenfield at 638-3586.
