JC man charged with stabbing man

A Jefferson City man has been charged in connection with a stabbing on Thursday.

Ishmel Martin, 18, 1102 Monroe St., is charged with second-degree assault and armed criminal action.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the male victim went to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment of multiple wounds.

The victim said he went to Martin's residence to collect money Martin owed him. He said Martin had a knife when he opened the door and the two got into a physical altercation.

Martin cut the victim multiple times and attempted to pick him up and throw him over the railing of a stairway. The victim told police he never had a weapon during the altercation.

Martin told police that the stabbing victim started the altercation by hitting him. Martin said he retrieved a folding box cutter during the altercation, but didn't know if he caused any injuries to the victim.

He added the victim did not have a weapon when the altercation took place.

The victim was treated for a large laceration to his scalp requiring multiple stitches and staples to close, along with lacerations to his left shoulder blade, left forearm, back and groin area. He also suffered from a punctured lung.
