JCPD announces promotions

The Jefferson City Police Department recently advanced four of its officers after conducting an extensive, competitive evaluation process.

The department reports that Jeff Stiefermann was promoted from the rank of sergeant to lieutenant. Stiefermann has served 24 years with JCPD, eight of those as a patrol sergeant and six as a traffic unit sergeant. During his career, Stiefermann has been a field training officer, a range master and a member of the SWAT team. He will be assigned to the Office of Professional Standards.

Officer Andrew Lenart was promoted to the rank of police sergeant. Lenart has been with the department for more than 11 years, having been assigned to the traffic unit for the past 6. Lenart has served as a field training officer, a motorcycle officer and the department's Honor Guard co-coordinator. Prior to joining JCPD, he served 8 years in the Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Missouri. He will be assigned to the Patrol Section of the Operations Division.

Detective Jason Miles also was promoted to the rank of police sergeant. Miles has been with JCPD for more than 10 years, serving as a detective since 2007. He was previously employed for more than 8 years by Capitol Police. He has been a field training officer and is currently a member of SWAT. He will be assigned to the Patrol Section of the Operations Division.

Officer Jon Kempker has been appointed to the position of police detective. Kempker has served the department for more than 9 years, during which he was a field training officer and patrol rifle marksman. He also is a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team.
