Meier hired to coach William Woods men's, women's tennis

Lauren Meier will be the new tennis coach at William Woods University, according to an announcement by the school's athletics department Thursday.

Meier will coach both men's and women's tennis at the school. William Woods has not had a women's tennis team since 1999 and never had a men's team.

Meier was the assistant men's and women's tennis coach the last two seasons at Georgia Gwinnett College. The school won its first national titles in men's and women's tennis during the 2014 season, going 21-0 and 18-4, respectively.

Combined, those teams had 15 players named NAIA all-Americans.

That earned Meier the honors of the 2014 ITA/NAIA Regional Men's and Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Prior to working at Georgia Gwinnett, Meier was the assistant women's tennis coach at Georgia State University for two years.

She has also worked as the assistant girls tennis coach at Henry Clay High School, where the team made an appearance in the state tournament during her year there.

She is a University of Kentucky graduate. Meier received a degree in business marketing and played four years of tennis for Kentucky, reaching the third round of the NCAA Tournament in her freshman season.

"I am extremely grateful to be presented with such a prestigious opportunity," Meier said Thursday in a press release. "I look forward to representing the William Woods Owls at the conference and national levels and building yet another athletic legacy for WWU."
