Your Opinion: Hypocrisy evident on Opinion Page

Dear Editor:

On July 16, you published a major editorial scolding about how terrible it is to “see invective and name-calling dominate public policy debate.”

Was this supposed to be a joke, or do you not see the hypocrisy in saying this when your editorial cartoons typically show the worst kind of contempt for anyone that apparently doesn’t agree with Jim Dyke in every way?

When you complain about the limited success that groups like the Young Professionals have in attracting and retaining fresh blood and money into Cole County, do you not consider the horrible impression that your newspaper makes when it conveys not disagreement but disrespect and contempt for people that don’t hew a very narrow line?

And last week when you published a cartoon that gratuitously insulted church groups and social groups (like the young professionals?) for not being as intelligent, moral or ethical as Dyke as spokesman for the News Tribune, what do you think that does?

Maybe you should cast the beam out of your own eye before you take on the mote found in others.
