Money changing hands for November state Senate races

Two Mid-Missouri state Senate seats are up for election this year.

Incumbent state Sen. Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City, is seeking a second term and has only a general election contest.

On his July 15 quarterly report, Kehoe reported having $259,003.08 cash on hand after receiving $95,100 since April and spending $24,542.57.

His biggest contributions included $25,000 from Stanley Herzog, a St. Joseph contractor; another $25,000 from the Kansas City-based "Hegeman for Senate" committee; a $15,000 donation from Citizens for Brad Lager, R-Savannah who's leaving the state Senate this year because of term limits; and $10,000 from the Jefferson City-based "Dealers Interested in Government" committee.

Democrat Mollie Freebairn is challenging Kehoe in November.

Her July report shows that she's raised $528, spent $182.98 and has $345.02 cash-on-hand.

Two state representatives are running for the vacant 10th District state Senate seat that includes Callaway County.

Rep. Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane, has $254,961.99 cash on hand after raising $65,770 and spending $34,525.86.

Her largest contribution, $5,000, came from the Missouri Optometric Association's Political Action Committee.

State Rep. Ed Schieffer, D-Troy, also wants the seat.

He has $19,520.04 cash on hand, after taking in $20,053,14 and spending $15,942.48.
