5 area residents hurt in 2 wrecks

A Lohman man and an Eldon woman were moderately injured in a one-vehicle wreck early Sunday morning in Miller County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Skyler D. Smallwood, 16, Lohman, was driving northbound on Route FF north of Spring Garden Road when her vehicle went off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a tree due to the driver being inattentive.

Smallwood and passenger James P. Strauch, 20, Lohman, were taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Health Center.

Neither were wearing seat belts.

On Saturday, three Fulton residents were injured in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday afternoon in Callaway County.

The patrol said a car driven by Amber R. Carter, 31, slowed for traffic and was struck in the rear by a car driven by Rafael G. McCoy, 41. Both cars were eastbound on U.S. 54 at Addison Avenue when the wreck occurred about 12:23 p.m.

Carter and passenger Mandie R. Rinehart, 30, sustained minor injuries. McCoy was not injured, but a passenger, Kris C. Karnes, 7, Fulton, was injured.

All three injured people were wearing seat belts, and all were taken to Women's and Children's Hospital in Columbia.
