3 finalists for JC fire chief

The Jefferson City Fire Chief Recommendation Committee has selected three finalists to participate in personal interviews and public forums.

The three finalists are: Interim Fire Chief Jason Turner and captains Jay Niemeyer and Matt Schofield.

A public forum has been scheduled for 4-6 p.m. July 24 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 320 E. McCarty St. The public is invited to attend, meet and ask questions of the finalists. A question and answer format will begin at 4 p.m. After questions are answered, any remaining time will be spent in an open house format.

Survey forms will be available for the public to provide feedback to the Recommendation Committee. The question and answer portion of the forum will be streamed live on the city's website, www.jeffcitymo.org.

The finalists will also participate in personal interviews with the recommendation committee and a public forum with fire department personnel. The public forum for fire department personnel will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. July 24 in the council chambers. It also will be streamed live on the city's website.

The fire chief position has been vacant since the retirement of long-serving Chief Bob Rennick last year.

According to the City Charter, the fire chief position is appointed by the recommendation of the city administrator and the approval of the mayor and council.
