WARDSVILLE - It didn't take long for Logan Mudd to find his sport.

"When I was in the fourth grade, I tried other sports, but when I got into the wrestling room, I knew this was what I wanted to do," Mudd said Monday.

And in the eighth grade, Mudd was already looking past high school.

"I knew I was going to continue with it through college," Mudd, who has signed to wrestle at the University of Missouri, said.

Mudd, a 2014 graduate of Blair Oaks High School, was a four-time medalist at the state tournament for the Falcons. He was the Class 1 state champion at 145 pounds, finishing with a 45-1 record after posting a 5-0 decision against Auston Gerth of Holden in the title match.

Mudd was 54-2 in taking second at 138 as a junior. He was fourth at 132 as a sophomore with a record of 39-5 and fourth at 119 as a freshman at 42-8.

"Being a Division I wrestler is a challenge and you have to respect Logan for taking this on," Blair Oaks coach Tim Karsten said. "Going to Division I in wresting is tough."

Karsten said one of Mudd's biggest attributes is his ability to think on the mat.

"Logan is an excellent wrestler, he always knows what position he's in and he's planning his next move," he said. "He's the real deal. Logan has worked really hard to get to this point.

"He's got all the tools. If he can stay injury-free and continue to develop, he'll fit in nicely."

Mudd, who wants to attend veterinary school, is already taking classes and practicing with the team. He said he's working out in the mornings and practicing in the afternoons.

"It's what I normally would be doing if I was in high school anyway," Mudd said.

Mudd is looking to do what he can to help the Tiger program, which has turned into one of the best in the country.

"I just want to go up there and make the team better," Mudd said. "They want me to show that I am committed to helping the team any way that I can."

Mudd is the second 2014 Blair Oaks graduate to sign with a Division I school. Lee Ann Polowy signed to play basketball at Missouri State.

Mudd is also the second Division I wrestler from Blair Oaks. Mitch Clark was the first, signing with Northern Colorado.
