Post 5 Seniors roll to 17-1 win at tournament

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 baseball team went out on a high note.

The local club tallied 21 hits and cruised to a 17-1 win in five innings against the Lee's Summit Outlaws on Saturday in a bonus game of the 29th Annual Fike Post 499 Wood Bat Tournament.

Corey Beard was 4-for-4 with one RBI, while Dylan Brauner and A.J. Elsworth both had three hits and drove in two runs to lead Post 5 at the plate.

Alex Faddoul had two hits and two RBI, Austin Sache had one hit and two RBI and Cody Stegemann added two hits and one RBI.

Hayden Strobel and Alex Johnson both had two hits, while Cole Distler added a hit and an RBI.

Brenden Ogletree drove in two runs, Trevor Schieders added an RBI and Logan Bax tallied a hit to wrap up the offensive attack.

Distler allowed one run on two hits, while walking two and striking out four in three innings to earn the win.

Elsworth threw two scoreless innings of relief, striking out two and walking one to close the door.

The Post 5 Seniors (16-7) will open play at Fulton in the first round of districts at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
