Post 5 Auxiliary perfect in event

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Auxiliary team used a pair of pitching gems Friday to wrap up pool play undefeated in the 29th Annual Fike Post 499 Wood Bat Tournament.

The local club started play on the day with a 2-0 win against the Lee's Summit Pirates, as Adam Grunden twirled a complete-game four-hitter. He struck out eight.

Post 5 had just three hits of its own - one each for Alex Anderson, Matt Temmen and Will Robertson. Alec Verhoff and Zach Hudspeth drove in one run apiece.

Post 5 then rolled to a 9-0 win against Overland Park (Kan.) Post 338 as James Reinkemeyer hurled a two-hitter, striking out two.

Bret Jaegers had three doubles and three RBI to pace the offense, Verhoff had two hits and three stolen bases, and Logan Vogel added two hits.

Post 5, which went 4-0 in pool play, advances to bracket play today.
