One arrested in JC parental kidnapping case

A parental kidnapping case in Jefferson City ended peacefully last night with the suspect's arrest and the safe return of a child.

The father of a six-year-old boy told Jefferson City Police that the boy's mother took the boy without his permission to Texas.

Shanika Myers was arrested in Katy Texas where the child was found.

There's no court ordered custody agreement between the father and mother but the boy has lived in Jeff City his entire life with his dad.

The mother who has only seen the child a few times in his life came to Jefferson City to visit him.

The father allowed them to go to a restaurant Tuesday night, but she failed to return the boy.

Police obtained a parental kidnapping warrant after the father reported it Wednesday night.

Myers is charged with felony parental kidnapping for removing her son from Missouri without good cause and with the intent to deprive the father of his custodial right to the boy.

The boy's father was making arrangements to pick-up the child.

Myers was in jail in Texas with bond set at $5,000.
