Woodpeckers knock out warning siren

One of Jefferson City's outdoor emergency warning sirens is out of service for repair work after being damaged by woodpeckers.

Authorities said they weren't sure when the birds damaged the siren at Lewis and Clark Middle School, 325 Lewis and Clark Drive, but the damage was found last week.

The damage occurred at the top of the siren, and it's unknown how long it will take to make repairs.

As a reminder, authorities said if residents hear an outdoor siren they should seek shelter and tune to a local TV or radio station for further information.
