SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Erick Torres scored his 11th goal of the season to give Chivas USA its first back-to-back victories of the season, 1-0 over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night.

Chivas USA (4-7-5) won on the road for just the second time this season and got its second consecutive shutout. San Jose (4-7-4) lost its third straight game by a 1-0 margin and has now gone 315 minutes since scoring its last goal.

The Earthquakes failed to clear Mauro Rosales' cross into the box after two botched headers. Torres was waiting for the ball at the far post and slid a roller to the left corner of the net to give Chivas USA the lead in the 53rd minute.

Torres tied Dom Dwyer of Sporting Kansas City for second place in the Golden Boot race. New York Red Bulls' Bradley Wright-Phillips leads Major League Soccer with 12 goals.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) - Rookie Harrison Shipp's second-half goal gave the Fire a draw with short-handed Toronto on a rainy night.

Chicago (2-4-9) leveled the match in the 56th minute after Shipp's deflected shot inside the penalty area squeaked past goalkeeper Joe Bendik. It was Shipp's sixth goal of the season.

Toronto FC (6-4-3) was reduced to 10 men when forward Luke Moore was sent off in the 29th minute after leading with an elbow on a challenge with Chris Ritter.

Toronto's goal came in the 42nd minute when Jermain Defoe settled a long ball near the end line and floated a cross to the back post. An unmarked Jackson headed it past Sean Johnson.
