Tuscumbia, St. Elizabeth head to girls title game

ELDON, Mo. — It’s two down, one to go for the Tuscumbia Lady Lions.

For the second straight game, the Lady Lions faced a bigger foe. And for the second straight night, Tuscumbia came out on top.

The Lady Lions followed up Thursday night’s win against Class 3-ranked North Technical with a 77-60 win against Class 4 Eldon in the semifinals of the Eldon Tournament.

Tuscumbia now advances to today’s 5:30 p.m. title game against St. Elizabeth, which defeated Marquette 52-37 in Friday night’s late game.

Eldon led Friday’s game 15-11 after one period, but Tuscumbia used a 23-16 scoring edge to rally for a 34-31 lead at the half. The Lady Lions led 52-51 after three quarters before blowing it open in the fourth.

Kendra Vaughan dropped in 25 points for Tuscumbia, which is the third-ranked team in the state in Class 1. Tempary Gunter added 20 and TaKayla Gunter chipped in with 13.

Taylor Pehle had 16 points to lead the way for Eldon, while Hannah Green had 14 and Becca Lassan had 12.

The St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets are also heading to the title game.

Savannah Stiles scored 21 points and Allie Heckemeyer added 18 to help lead St. Elizabeth to a 52-37 win against Marquette in a semifinal game of the Eldon Tournament on Friday night.

The Hornets (10-6) led 13-11 after the first quarter, 26-13 at halftime, and took a 40-27 edge into the final period.
