— An autopsy on the woman found dead in Holts Summit on Thursday has been delayed.

Holts Summit Police Sgt. Marc Haycook told the Fulton Sun that the medical examiner's office is waiting on Jessica Murafetis' body to thaw.

Murafetis, 44, was found around 11:30 a.m. Thursday in a grassy area north of the gravel lot where tractor-trailers frequently park at the Exxon Mobil gas station just off U.S. Highway 54 in Holts Summit.

Authorities previously reported she was from Chilhowee - in Johnson County south of Warrensburg - but told the Sun on Friday that she was actually a Kansas City resident.

Haycook said authorities have reached out to Kansas City area media for help in finding out more information about Murafetis. He said Murafetis, who was married, does not have any known employment in the Callaway County area nor any family here.

Authorities didn't know how long she had been dead and lying on the ground there, noting her body had not decomposed but cold weather may have played a factor in that.

She had no identification on her when a customer and employee found Murafetis' body and called police. She was wearing "olive-drab" (green) United States Marine Corps sweatpants and a red long-sleeve T-shirt with the logo of Kansas City-based Covenant Towing and Recovery on it.

Haycook said the Boone/Callaway Medical Examiners office hoped to perform an autopsy this weekend.

More than a dozen law enforcement officers - including from the Holts Summit Police Department, Jefferson City Police Department, Callaway County Sheriff's Office and Missouri Highway Patrol - scoured the area where her body was found Thursday looking for clues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bryan Reid with Holts Summit PD at (573) 896-8431 or Callaway Crime Stoppers at (573) 592-2474.
