Second man charged in JC home invasion

A second man has been charged in connection with a home invasion that occurred Monday in Jefferson City.

As of Thursday authorities were still looking for Bruce Maylee, 54, Iberia, who is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and felonious restraint.

On Tuesday, authorities arrested Robert Stegeman, 50, Jefferson City, and charged him in this case.

Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements show authorities checked Stegeman's cell phone and found Maylee's number on there.

Stegeman and Maylee are believed to have broken into a home in the 400 block of Hickory Street just after 10 p.m. Monday night.

They tied up a man and woman living there and beat the man, breaking his jaw, a finger and fracturing one of his eye socket's.

While fighting with the man, Maylee struck him with a pistol and chocked him until he passed out.

Maylee and Stegeman were said to be demanding $3,250 which the male victim said he did not have.

The victims identified Maylee and Stegeman in photo lineups and descriptions they gave matched those of Maylee and Stegeman.

A witness told authorities that earlier this month, the male victim stole $3,000 from Maylee for a drug transaction. A search of the male victim's phone shows four text messages from Maylee. They were harassing in nature and included name calling.
