Washington girl thrown in trunk called for help

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A 15-year-old girl on her way to school Monday morning was kidnapped by three masked teenage boys armed with a gun who put her in the trunk of a car, law officers said.

But the girl had her cellphone, called for help and identified one of the kidnappers as an ex-boyfriend, police said.

The Washington State Patrol stopped the stolen car about two hours later on Highway 410 near Bumping Lake in the Cascade Range.

The driver surrendered without incident and the girl was not harmed, law officers said.

Yakima Police Capt. Rod Light said the teenage driver was arrested and police later arrested two other suspects who had been dropped off at Highland High School.

Light told the Yakima Herald-Republic police don't know where the driver was headed.

"We're not even sure what his intent was, but obviously it wasn't good," Light said. "So, thank goodness, she had a cellphone."
