Your Opinion: Phase in new energy sources

Dear Editor:

There's been a lot of back and forth these days about energy solutions, including news around solar, wind, and renewable fuel standards. There's absolutely no doubt that we need a well-rounded, all-in approach to providing responsible energy options in Missouri.

I agree that renewable energy sources are part of that equation and applaud the groups, like Ameren, that are working to get that done. But I also applaud them for not leaving consumers behind by not putting all their eggs in one basket. Ameren is not only looking at other clean energy solutions, like nuclear with small modular reactors, but are hyper-focused on ensuring our energy infrastructure is repaired so that we have a more efficient way to deliver electricity.

With as much as 80 percent of our energy still coming from coal in Missouri, we cannot just turn off that resource tomorrow without having new energy sources ready to replace it. As we evolve into a better balance of clean and renewable energy that will undoubtedly help leave a cleaner planet to our kids, it only makes sense to make the best of a well-rounded approach that includes an improved energy grid for more efficient distribution of all our energy options.

It is a well-known fact that Ameren is one of the most reliable power sources in the nation let's make sure we keep it that way.
